Restoration is expected to seed the bay and improve water quality

A number of partners have come together to implement restoration: Horn Point Oyster Hatchery, Oyster Recovery Partnership, state and federal agencies, Paynter lab, and citizen groups

Oysters provide ecosystem services :

  • Oysters and associated organisms filter the water: particles, algae, and solids

  • Oysters harbor microbes that convert nitrogen pollution to nonharmful nitrogen gas, which goes into the atmosphere.

We learned that under ideal conditions, the more oysters there are, the more nitrogen pollution is removed from the water
